Hard Pellet (6/8 or 11mm) seems to be the bait at the Mo to combat the Roach, Rudd and Skimmers on either the Pole shallow or on the deck or on the Pellet Waggler.
Any bait will get you bites, Paste, Meat and Corn etc. If you fancy making a weigth of silvers, then Maggot, Caster and Worms. But you need a bit of bait. |

I was just wondering what has happened to all you Morley lads on the Birkwood Monday night opens? The last two matches have only seen 6 or 7 turn up. At least everyone can have 4 pegs apiece though!

I had a walk around Birkwood tonight to see how it was fishing and Dick just happened to ride around on his quad bike. We got talking about how the lake record had been broke again on Emily's lake by none other than MARTIN HOLMES. Then Dick asked me if Morley Match were having the Monday night opens or summer evening league again this year? I said I didn't know. Can anyone answer this question for me please? Also there is a planning permission notice on the gate post on the way in to the fishery. Dick is applying for permission to build some more lakes but I don't know where they are going to be or what sort of lakes he has in mind!

Hi Dave, got the name right did you notice
With ref Monday night opens I can't run them myself due to not being able to guarantee being there with work commitments.
I don't think any of the Morley Lads are running them this year unless anybody corrects me???.
I did have a phone call though from a chap from the gardeners club who said he might run them if nobody else wanted to. Bob Rymer organised them last year, but with such poor attendances last year I dont think he will run them this year, It will be a shame if nobody does.
Spring is here at last |

Having not fished Birkwood since March 26th 2008 which was a very cold and wet day and the lake was flat calm, I struggled for 3 very small carp and around 8 skimmers which were all caught using the tea bag with pellet on a lassoo. It was one of the coldest days throughout the winter. With Summer now here I thought as I got home early I would go to Birkwood and have a couple of hours.
The good news is I caught big fat skimmers you know them elusive fish that didn't make an appearance during the winter series, with plenty of crucians and small carp with the biggest around 4lb all caught on that yellow stuff corn, feeding 4 mill hard pellets.
So where do these big skimmers go to in the winter
All I know is the place is solid.
Get your self down there and have a play, its the future
let me think about this, shall I go fishing this weekend hmm Might do |
