Martin B was up on peg 2 (always practice the hard pegs!) on Wednesday - lots of silvers but no carpies. Should have made it a silver league after all!
Will the winter ever feck off - its even forecast 4 degrees for Newquay on Sunday - hope it warms up soon as I'm down there for the Baittec festival a week on Saturday! May need the thermals.... |

Prediction time - yet again I think we will see little on the carp front though perhaps 3 or 4 to come out if they respond to the sun on the water. I reckon you will need 15lb to be top 2 in sections A and C; 12lb to do it in section B. Forecast to be windy so fishing shallow probably not an option for most.... |

It's a cold but very pleasant day today.
My prediction is that it will fish very hard for most. Winning weight = 12lb. |

Updated results boys....its tight for the top 5 though G2e is very much in the buck seat for the top spot after another fine performance today (especially the lying bit.....)
The carp look to be moving so if it continues to warm up before the next round everyone will be keeping em crossed for a few lumps to have a chance of the top 5.
Dont forget all the next round is 21st March and the final round the following week on 28th March. Elite final scheduled for 11th April.
Will post my musing on today later, tired now!

Well, apart from the unexpected Carp in peg 23, my 12lb estimate for a winning silvers net wasn't far off.
Well done Graham!!
Where was Roger?? |

Get well soon Rog - Nobby will go out of business if he doesnt see you in a week! |

Birkwood 7th March - The Pinocchio Classic ------------------------------------------
Weather rating 5/5 sun in MY eyes rating 0/5 carp rating 0/5 ex old bill fibs rating 5/5
Another freezing day, but once the sun got up it was positively tropical.
We got there to see the aerator whizzing its tits off in peg3 stirring up freezing cold water - i wouldn't want to be the poor bugger who draws that today!!
At the draw bag I take my position to draw for CK and Martin, only to be told that he (Martin) hasn't relented and I'm still in the dog house and can't draw him a peg.
His new friend Andy Scott is also in there with me, as he's onto his 3rd peggy friend of the series - Eric the Viking.
I draw CK p17 and Enrique pulls out....
Peg 11.
'You Elvis hairstyled t++t!' I'm not that certain he'll be drawing for him again next time..
Into the bag of dreams for me and out comes peg3 - on this top bank - not too bad, then i remember the aerator ..maybe not then.
With a good couple of hours before the match though the optimist in me is looking forward to fishing.
(The Pessimist has gone home, kicked the cat and come back)
Usual set up apart from my short in line isn't a short line - I need 11M to get any depth. This peg really was a nightmare before the platform was extended.
14.5M and there's disasters and babies fingers in my GB mix.
G2E moaned all the way around to his peg on the high bank - p23
Des North in p1 and Tony the carp magnet Lawson in p4 and we're ready to roll.
All - in and the float goes under and a stream of blue number whatever it is I've got in there comes out of the pole.
Ooooo - this is a nice start!!
No it isn't - it comes off.
Back out and all is quiet on the Western front for 25 mins.
Whatever it was has ballsed (is this a word?) up the swim.
It was most probably a pike.
I just couldn't buy a bite - I even chuck the feeder out at one stage even though I hadn't even set it up originally.
Dixon of Dock Green in p23 is getting plenty and owns up to 'I'v about 4 ounce!' just as another 6oz skimmer comes over the net.
I re-feed and go back to my long line and someone turned the switch to 'ON'.
2 decent skimmers and roach every chuck pretty much keep me busy in between watching MMA in 11 and G2E in 23 doing their impressions of a Spanish trawler.
And just when i thought it was safe to go back in the water - Tony the carp magnet does what it says on the tin.
Well I've chased carp in p16 with no luck so I won't be doing it in p3, and keep sprat bashing.
Taggart in p23 has a carp on now as carp start appearing - Des gets a couple from p1 so i'm being carp sandwiched.
G2E says he has 5lb and then 5 mins later says 'about 4 1/2lb'
Des is first to point out that that's one hell of a diet they've been on.
p22 is putting a few in the net too - but that doesn't rattle an ex SPG man and he comes back with a carp again.
At the weigh in its tight right across my section but i'm more than pleased with 2nd in section with 6lb of mostly sprats.
MMA tips 14lb of silvers onto the scales to take the top silvers prize...
We then go right round to the top bank to see the best weights of the year with p22 getting 20lb of carp and silvers before we see G2E's 'about 7lb'.
try 27lb
He walks the match again and pips MMA for the silvers prize as well with 15lb of skimmers.
Some other expletive leaves Martin's mouth.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you want to know the time - ask a Policeman.
Just don't bother asking for an accurate weight.

Birkwood 21st March - The WD40 Classic ---------------------------------------
Weather rating 5/5 bait rating 57/5 banter rating 5/5 carp rating 7/5 trade descriptions act rating 2/5 smooth pole roller rating 0/5 Emperors Banquet rating... dont get me started on that one
A bit of warmer weather and we're all stood waiting for the organiser who's late. Apparently he's been on a festival somewhere - i'm not sure where it was - and was late back.
Anyway - CK who is a true gentleman asked me to draw for him again - out pops 15 for him.
Martin 'differentfriendeachSunday' Holmes picks Goldenballs to draw for him - out pops 28 for him.
Even though all his rigs are set from the last couple of times he's fished it, he launched what can only be described as a tirade (is this a word?) of abuse at poor Mr Balls. I told him he'd be 'alreet' there but he was having none of.
I fancied a carp type peg this week so pulled out peg 1.
James in peg 2 put me in a Holmes sandwich.
This weeks plan was GB line - pellet/corn line - short casta line (i'll spell casta how i like) so the bait menu was 'comprehensive' a bit like my old school...
All in and I thought i'd have a chuck on the pellet feeder with a piece of yellow peril on th'ook.
Martin asks what size of 'banded' pellet I've got on and I tell him I haven't - I'm using sweetcorn.
'Yeah but it's a pellet feeder!'
'Well I'm using corn!! Alright??'
Those Trades Description people can be a right pain in the arse so I didn't want any grief off them so I reel in and change to a 14mm Halibut pellet.
15 mins gone and Martin in 28 is getting a sprat a bung but hold on - the tips gone around and I'm into a carp!!
Martin congratulates me on my chuckin it n chancin it method..
Everytime Martin gets a fish (every 2 minutes) he's shipping back and all i can hear is
<< zz zza zz zaaar.... zz zza zz zaaar....>>
as his pole is going in and out of his hands and up his pole rollers.
But hold on a minute - there's a new sound on the block - eeEEEK ... eeEEEK ... eeEEEK
Eric the Viking in Peg 3 with a pole roller made out of a rusty old pram by the sounds of it.
I shout out for him to get some WD40 on it but it goes over his head - him not being from an Engineering background.
I get a couple more carp then it dies so I start some sprat bashing - nowhere near as quick as MMA in 28 but the odd nice roach makes an appearance.
A try on 4mm expander and I get two 10lb carp - or was it a gudgeon and a sprat - I forget which.
Back on the feeder and I get a couple more carp in between a constant zz zza zz zaaar.... zz zza zz zaaar....from the next peg.
Thankfully Eric is on the tip...
Last half an hour and I snare a carp on the pole line on corn - it seems most people are getting signs of carp closer in now as a squeeky eeEEEK ... eeEEEK ... eeEEEK tells me Eric is back on the pole.
It's hard to see who has what from peg 1 but I'd done OK by the looks of it - I guesstimated I'd over 20lb and had Martin on something like 18 - 20.
All out ( eeEEEK eeEEEK eeEEEK) ... ( zza zz zzza) and its time to weigh.
I'm on the phone to Mr Wongs to see if they still do an Emperors Banquet (it's been a while) as Martin tips his great net of roach into the sling and the needle fair hurtles to 22lb..
'I'll ring you back Mr Wong!'
Surely 7 carp must equal more than 22lb.
Out comes my silvers and there's 5lb to be going on with.
I lift out my carp net and .. hold on - it appears they've turned into those ones G2E caught the other week - they've been on a bloody diet and hardly weigh a thing!
16lb + 5lb = curry n chips
Still - there's always next week.
eeEEEK ... eeEEEKK ...eeEEEK

EEEK ZZZZZ- I could hear that across the lake, wasnt sure who it was though! You'd think at least MMA could afford a new ones (or some WD40!) with all the winnings he has scooped of late...
Anyhow results posted below plus a little analysis of the peg performance to date (Paul used to do this stuff so I thought I should too....) makes interesting bit of reading. I'll think about putting the anglers against the pegs after the last round to get some grief going about drawbags! lol!
As to my match - bit poor to be honest. Long pole was poor, wasted an hour rotating between method / bomb and pellet waggler as I was sure I would get a carp or three as I could see em - but they werent hungry! Put together a late run shallow at 6 m for 11 7, only enough for 4th in section. Peg 15 really does seem to have blown with only one good result all series, on a hard day by someone who can catch fish!
